The whole "Kill 10 bears" thing, still exists, which isn't shocking because it's just one easy staple of the MMOG diet. When your talking about an open PvE World, you have very few good options available to you, I find. And if you try to move away from those options, you might find yourself in a bigger mess then you started. The game was way over hyped, but luckly, enough of us are actually having fun just playing the game, and enjoying the kind of content it's provided for us. Is wow a better game over all? I suspect so. But for some of us, we can play both, or we can at least just enjoy War for what it has to offer. I for one, just love PvP way too much to go with a much more PvE focused game. And then you find a Kill Collector in the game, and he does indeed reward you for a bunch o' stuff you were just killing. Only he's standing next to somebody who hands out a bog-standard "kill 10 of..." quest, possibly for those exact same mobs, which slightly takes the edge off it, but not to the extent of "Mythic are EVIL and LIED to us, to the lawsuitmobile!" With five year (minimum?) development cycles, and companies trying to keep people interested (and presumably investors happy), there's going to be a huge build-up of expectation for any new MMO, and as with so many things the anticipation often proves more exciting than the event, kudos to y'all at BoG for staying nice and level headed.
