Laziness (and come to London!)

Ardua has posted a full write-up of the Dublin fan-meet and our trip to GOA. I should have done it before now, but at least a couple of photos I put up match up with what he said. We’re both just clearing some of the pub photos with those in them before we put them before the world.

Our next crazy enterprise (you’ll get this joke in a nanosecond) is to organise a similar get-together (but with more fans and less GOA) in May. 9th May to be precise, in a pub to be announced once I’ve rung a couple to get an idea of how many they can hold etc. Might even do that today. Why May 9th? Well, it avoids the pesky May bank holidays when travel is just too expensive, but it also falls right next to the Star Trek release date. And Ardua, in his craziness, and his wife are hoping and planning to organise a group trip to the cinema. Possibly even the IMAX.

And maybe we can persuade Magnus to bring his clippers and show off his leet hair-cutting skillz. Seriously, I’d let him put a chaos symbol on my head if only to annoy work. I mean, maybe I’ll do it for charity…

Anyway, if anyone else wants to help with planning, let us know. It’s hopefully going to be quite a big and exciting affair and I’m off to try and book my train tickets now!

Having too much fun to post!

Tier 1, when full of players, is incredible fun. The free trials, the Slayers and the Choppas and server consolidation have all meant for a return to the feeling of release week. And it’s too much fun to stop and post (especially when I’m supposed to be packing to go see Spinks and rest of family). Again, playing the game takes priority over blogging. Bad me :-p

So instead, here’s a picture of how I’d like my office decorated, showed off by Magnus:

Annnd, in lieu of any pics of the crazy pub-ness, here’s a pic of the lovely little FEMALE RUNE PRIEST miniature Magnus and Nic put together to give me for my birthday. It’s pretty awesome, and I meant to post it before now, but as I said before, time constraints. It now has pride of place where the cats can’t attack it!

Big Day Today

Here come the Slayers/Choppas! The new classes should be available to those who completed the Bitter Rivals event later today after the servers come down. But that’s not the only reason it’s a big day. There’s also a bunch of server moves happening to help players get to experience better RvR through more targets:

All characters on servers from which we have previously offered transfers will be moved to more lively servers…

…Here’s the full list of automatic transfers
Dragonback Mountains, Mount Silverspear, Sea Of Dreams, Tiranoc and Finuval Plain to Eltharion
Karak Ungor, Clar Karond and Karak-Vlag to Karak-Azgal
Karak-Hirn, Karaz-a-Karak, TorAnroc and Yvresse to Karak-Norn
Zhufbar, Worlds Edge Mountains, Axe Bite Pass, Karag Dron and Karag Orrud to Karak Eight Peaks
Makaisson, Ellyrion and Alarielle to Burlok

It’s quite a big deal and a couple of European bloggers have been talking about their experiences moving from Karak-Hirn to Karak-Norn. The server moves, along with the 10-day free trial available through WAR Europe and the return of players to see the new classes mean we should be getting some stellar play in over the next days and weeks, breathing new life into RvR and PvE (yes, time to get those hard PQs done). It’s quite a big deal to welcome new players to your server, especially when you’re used to the same old names – but give it a go, I intend to on Burlok and I’m not a naturally friendly person ;p! (btw, if you’re coming to Burlok as either Order or Destruction, I’ll be playing Idris the Warrior Priest, feel free to say hi or to kill me and report it here!).

And I know you’re all waiting for stuff about the Dublin trip, so here’s a quick overview:

  • lots of GOA, not so many players – we intend to change this at a London get-together (maybe check 9th May in your calendars…more on that soon)
  • GOA were really friendly, their offices all bright and decorated WAR-style
  • T-shirts rock 🙂
  • So do female Rune Priest birthday presents (thanks to Nic and Magnus for this, it has pride of place away from ALL cats!!!)
  • Go bother Tuffmudda to start the ‘recipes for MMO players’ meme. I reckon we can get at least one recipe out of every WAR blogger

I guess what I took away from it the most is that the individuals at GOA who work with WAR are incredibly enthusiastic and joyful about their work. Many of them are dedicated Warhammer junkies and however much we all love the game and the community, they do too. They just get to see all the other sides of it! And yes, there will be pictures and an interview with Nic and Magnus for quieter days!

Thanks Dubliners!

Had an awesome day/evening in Dublin yesterday courtesy of Ardua and the GOA Team (esp. Magnus and Nic).

I’ll no doubt be writing more about it over the coming days, but for now I have to dash and do household-y things (ie. cuddle some obviously abandoned cats!).

Off to Dublin!

Tomorrow I’ll be leaving at the crack of dawn to get to the Airport and head over to Dublin for the fan get-together and also to meet up with Nic and Magnus from GOA and Ardua from Echoes of Nonsense.

If you can make it, that’d be great. Bull and Castle pub at 7pm local time. I’ll be the sleepy looking one!! Ask for the table/s booked for GOA to find us. Don’t bring cameras 🙂

As for WAR, have been enjoying the event as much as I can on my limited time at the moment, it’s also been great to have some old friends back in the game.

PuG in a Pub!

One week today (9th March 2009), GOA is being infiltrated by myself and Ardua, and following a jaunt around the office and a peek at the nascent European official forums, Nic and Magnus will be joining us at the Bull and Castle pub – and you’re ALL invited (to the pub bit!).

We reckon we’ll be hitting the pub at 7pm local time, which should allow for a fair amount of revelry. And Nic’s going to reserve a couple of tables under the name ‘GOA’ and he thinks they’ll probably be upstairs in case anyone gets there before us.

Any questions about the day, leave a comment here or grab me on twitter. And if you have any last-minute questions for GOA, please also feel free to get in touch.

[For anyone making the trip, here’s some info Ardua put together for his blog, keep checking his blog for the most up-to-date details, as I’ll be leaving my house around 5am on 9th March!]

Question Time

It may not have escaped the notice of regular readers here that I’m off to Dublin to meet up with GOA, Ardua from Echoes of Nonsense and hopefully a bevvy of WAR fans on March 9th. Ardua has put up some excellent travel info about getting to Dublin on the page I linked to, so check it out if you fancy a trip (for the record, it’s only costing me £20 on Ryanair for the overnight trip from Newcastle!).

The pub chosen for the WAR fan get-together is the Bull and Castle and though we haven’t hammered out exact times yet, it’ll be after work until we get sleepy!

But what I need from you all now – is some questions for GOA? Magnus and Nic have been good enough to offer us some time to interview them and chat with them, and I know people out there will come up with a bunch more questions that me, Spinks and Ardua can think up. So let people know, drop a comment in here and leave us some questions, I promise to try and ask them ALL, but can’t promise they’ll all get answered.
