Where will Kaja go?

Burlok is dead, its remains smouldering in ashes. Kaja the dwarven Rune Priest stands ‘tall’ and looks around. She has a choice of new homes, aside from Karak-Azgal where the evil Ailil bounces on her disk.

Ok, I’ll prob move her to Karak Eight Peaks on monday. No idea what the new guild is doing, but these days I’m more of a soloer. And it sounded like a fun server on saturday.

RP server closures are sad to me, because they offer something that you just don’t find elsewhere. But WAR demands on numbers, and equality. And the numbers are so LOW on the RP servers, that these moves are inevitable. And wherever I go, I’ll be using Flimgoblin’s awesome new RP addon.

Hrrm, the move is on the same day my 6-month sub runs out. I was going to take a few weeks break from the game and then continue playing and move any new WAR commentary to my more general blog: Nerf the Cat. Yes folks, after a new breath of life for the Age of Blogging, the Book of Grudges is most definitely coming to an end.

It shows how things have progressed in 7  months. I’ve gone from uber-excited about every announcement, to slightly cynical and needing proof of things. I gave up on end-game and enjoyed the simplicity of tiers 1 and 2, and could play those all the time! I look forward to the Land of the Dead ‘expansion’ stuff. But I miss my guild, my friends, my server – and let’s face it, Book of Grudges is in no way as good as it was when I shared duties with Spinks and Hawley.

I am determined to keep an eye on WAR, I hope I enjoy my new server when I get back to playing there. It’s going to be a bit weird to make sure my friends (whose subs have run out) get to the same server. I’m not even sure it’s possible, so that will be seriously upsetting for all of us. I even got some great ideas for WAR blog posts at the pub gathering over the weekend. Those posts will be on Nerf the Cat, however. Not here.

Thanks to all for reading, commenting, visiting and keeping us in the feed-reader! It’s definitely appreciated.

A very quick thank you

To those that came to the pub yesterday and braved meeting me & Spinks as well as fellow players, thanks! I had a really great time, and it reminded me how much MMO players can sometimes have in common (in one case almost freakishly so, but in a comedic way).

Will write more soon. Hear from Warhammer Alliance over twitter that Mythic apparently care enough about Europe to start working on equality of marketing and give-away codes. They didn’t send any for our fan-run pub gathering, though! They’ll get there, in another few months.

Shame no-one from GOA could make it. Shame more people didn’t come. But, having said that, was truly glad to be able to chat to those who did in-depth, because they were all remarkably interesting people.

Who knows? When the dust settles and I’m home, I may consider it more.

What are YOU doing on 9th May?

We (ie. me & Spinks), along with some of our friends, will be at the Cittie of Yorke pub in Holborn, London, having drinks and discussing WAR and probably all sorts of related things. And we’d love it if you could come along, with friends, guildies, forum friends, anyone at all who’d like to join a get-together of London WAR players, friends and family!

The address of the pub is 22 Holborn, WC1V 8BN and we’ve booked the front room for 4pm onwards. Nearest Tube stations are Chancery Lane, Holborn and Farringdon and you can see what the pub looks like and get an idea of its location and reviews, etc from the Beer in the Evening website. The Transport for London Journey Planner can help you get info about how to get to Holborn from anywhere else in London and is a really useful tool.

It’s a good weekend to be in London anyway, since Star Trek is released on 8th May!!  We picked the weekend especially, but also because it avoids bank holidays, when travel is always more expensive.

Anyway, would be great to get as big a turn-out as possible, so I’d be grateful if you could spread the word on the forums and guild channels that you use on a regular basis. If it’s successful, who knows, there could be many more such fan get-togethers which could eventually form the basis for something a little more official. That being said, I know the gang from GOA are hoping to send people along, so it’s a chance to hang out, talk WAR, and drink (naturally!).

I would now make a reference to London as the Inevitable City but I’m kind of tired, so you’ll have to wait to see me in person for my razor-sharp wit!

(and for the record, a few of us are hoping to see Star Trek at the IMAX the night before, but it might get complicated to organise for too many people – but if you are there, I’m sure we could say hello in true British fashion  – ie. with a drink).

Confused, but Good News (TM)

And for the record, I’m setting this to post this afternoon so you know it’s not April’s Fool. But my confusion really made me second guess that for a moment, except GOA didn’t post it today.

GOA are instituting a system of ‘wildcards’. You get to use three a year. They can be used to change influence items chosen by mistake, to sort out mistaken server transfers or messed up guild transfers or to fix need/greed rolls (when you thieved an item from someone else by mistakenly hitting need).

Read all about it properly on GOA’s site. It’s not even a translation thing, just reading it made my mind go funny. Seriously.

Now, I do like the idea of being able to fix certain things, especially the server transfer stuff. The items and need/greed stuff seems a bit of a nightmare to monitor for CS staff, but I think limiting people to 3 uses of these things on a rolling year cycle is something and to then offer them is good and useful progress.

It’s just a bit confusing, but maybe that’s because I’ve never needed to do any of these things. Or, maybe I’m having a fuzzy-headed day!

Euro Forums

It’e the last day to change your nickname in preparation for the European forums launch on wednesday. So if you feel the pressing need, or want to change it from your real name or silly punny name, it’s time to go do it today. You won’t get another chance.

After expressing some concerns about the EU/US forum split, I now find myself looking forward to our forums, in the hope they help solidify the European community for WAR and enable us all to get to know one another better. While Warhammer Alliance, the Vault and Freddyshouse all have their places in my heart also, the idea of all players in Europe having access to one set of forums pleases me. I look forward to it.

To celebrate the launch of the forums, GOA are hosting a dev chat on Thursday. Keep an eye on their site for details of how to contribute and ask some questions to the Mythic devs (if I forget, someone ask them to London on 9th May ;p Actually, I work late on Thursdays, so if I go it’ll all be down to when I get home and how tired I am).

There’s also some forum contests, a RP/writing one and a guide-writing one. These will give access to some of the goodies previously only on the US-servers (the skaven-skin cloak, and the uniques for Slayers/Choppas). Of course, Americans only had to show up to conventions to get theirs, but actually, in terms of distance they had to travel to do that (in some cases), entering a writing contest might be easier! Get your thinking caps on, the prizes are apt and desirable in a fluffy kind of way.

(ha ha, this was supposed to be a really short piece to pimp GOA’s news, oh well, I have some work to do on becoming pithy!)

Laziness (and come to London!)

Ardua has posted a full write-up of the Dublin fan-meet and our trip to GOA. I should have done it before now, but at least a couple of photos I put up match up with what he said. We’re both just clearing some of the pub photos with those in them before we put them before the world.

Our next crazy enterprise (you’ll get this joke in a nanosecond) is to organise a similar get-together (but with more fans and less GOA) in May. 9th May to be precise, in a pub to be announced once I’ve rung a couple to get an idea of how many they can hold etc. Might even do that today. Why May 9th? Well, it avoids the pesky May bank holidays when travel is just too expensive, but it also falls right next to the Star Trek release date. And Ardua, in his craziness, and his wife are hoping and planning to organise a group trip to the cinema. Possibly even the IMAX.

And maybe we can persuade Magnus to bring his clippers and show off his leet hair-cutting skillz. Seriously, I’d let him put a chaos symbol on my head if only to annoy work. I mean, maybe I’ll do it for charity…

Anyway, if anyone else wants to help with planning, let us know. It’s hopefully going to be quite a big and exciting affair and I’m off to try and book my train tickets now!

Having too much fun to post!

Tier 1, when full of players, is incredible fun. The free trials, the Slayers and the Choppas and server consolidation have all meant for a return to the feeling of release week. And it’s too much fun to stop and post (especially when I’m supposed to be packing to go see Spinks and rest of family). Again, playing the game takes priority over blogging. Bad me :-p

So instead, here’s a picture of how I’d like my office decorated, showed off by Magnus:

Annnd, in lieu of any pics of the crazy pub-ness, here’s a pic of the lovely little FEMALE RUNE PRIEST miniature Magnus and Nic put together to give me for my birthday. It’s pretty awesome, and I meant to post it before now, but as I said before, time constraints. It now has pride of place where the cats can’t attack it!
